What we know about the New Assassin’s Creed

Many fans have eagerly anticipating Assassin’s Creed Mirage. While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins are some of the greatest open world games of the past console generation, there has been a demand for something that returns to the series’ stealth-action roots that it was founded on 15 years ago. And that’s what Assassin’s Creed Mirage promises to be: a departure from the action-RPG framework in favour of a love letter to Altair and Ezio’s exploits.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was announced as part of the Ubisoft Forward September Showcase in 2022, and it has rapidly become one of our most anticipated forthcoming Assassin’s Creed titles. That’s saying a lot considering Ubisoft also introduced its next two “flagship” action-RPG chapters, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red and Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. As if that wasn’t enough, we also discovered how Assassin’s Creed Infinity will affect the series’ future.

As fantastic as all of it is, don’t forget about Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Everything from the evolution of stealth, parkour, and assassination mechanisms to fresh details on the location and characters can be found here. So keep reading to discover out what we know about Assassin’s Creed Mirage so far.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a return to the series’ beginnings, with Ubisoft returning to the stealth-action, narrative-driven foundations that distinguished Altair and Ezio’s early adventures. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set in Baghdad and will depict Basim’s development several decades before his introduction in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Ubisoft has stated that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released in 2023, although no specific date has been announced. The platforms for Assassin’s Creed Mirage have been announced as PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will also be available on PC via the Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store, according to Ubisoft.

Watch the Assassin’s Creed Mirage trailer above to see a younger Basim, the stunning Baghdad backdrop, and the improved focus on assassinations, parkour, and stealth. While there is no gameplay in the CGI video, it does offer us a solid idea of what to expect from Mirage. Fans of Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed 2 should pay attention, since there are several mechanics suggested at here that were lost when the series turned into an RPG.

The Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay will return the franchise to its roots, with social stealth, rapid parkour, and nimble assassinations. According to Ubisoft Bordeaux, “there’s a little bit of every Assassin’s Creed game in Mirage, and gamers can look forward to travelling back to the series’ roots while enjoying a modern take on gameplay and iconic aspects from the early games.” This limited emphasis, especially when contrasted to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, will be supplemented with a narrative-driven approach to growth and a smaller world to explore.

The plot of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is said to be more straightforward than in previous games in the franchise. Mirage’s “narrative structure is considerably closer to the early Assassin’s Creed games, in the sense that it is more driven and linear than what players experience in the newest AC games,” according to narrative director Sarah Beaulieu. While we’ll still be able to explore and experiment, deciding which order to undertake assassination missions in, Beaulieu says Ubisoft Bordeux intended Mirage’s plot to be “extremely dramatic and focused with a distinct beginning and finish.”

Basim Ibn Is’haq is the main character in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. While Basim had an important role in the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Mirage will follow the character 20 years earlier – and chart his ascension from street robber to Apprentice to Master Assassin. Mirage, according to narrative director Sarah Beaulieu, “follows the growth of a stubborn young guy into a trained Master Assassin with a troubled destiny.” We’ll also learn more about The Hidden Ones and the development of the ancient organisation created by Aya and Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins as part of this voyage.
