New Trailer? What new things have we learned about Pokemon Violet and Scarlet!

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have gotten a new trailer, and it’s fourteen minutes long. That’s a lot to go over, so grab a seat and a cup of Sinistea as we the most exciting news in this current teaser.

New Pokémon!

We’re beginning small but powerful with the new Pokémon seen in this teaser. Only one was officially announced: Farigiraf, a difficult-to-pronounce variation of Girafarig in which the tail has become the head. Farigiraf also has new talents… But we’ll get to those eventually.

Several additional new Pokémon featured in the video, but we didn’t have any information about them, including as names, kinds, or even what they looked like. See them in the full Trailer at the end!

Picnics

The new Paldean Picnics, which are comparable to Sword and Shield’s camping, continue Pokémon’s ever-evolving attempts to establish a Poké-hangout with our’mons. Instead of a first-person static camera, it appears you’ll be in third-person, playing ball with your squad to bond with them.

There’s even a first-person washing minigame for your filthy Pokémon (with a small Mareep spoooonge!!!) that appears to make them like you more. It also cleans them.

There’s a potential that a Pokémon Egg may emerge in your picnic baskets for some reason — it wasn’t explained — providing you free Pokémon as long as you don’t cook the egg, you monster. Is this a specific Pokémon that like laying eggs in baskets, or is it any Pokémon? We’ll have to wait and see.

You can also personalise your picnics by changing the tablecloth! This is crucial. The best thing about picnics, of course, is the food, and ScaVi swaps out Sword & Shield’s curries for Paldea’s sandwiches. It appears that you can buy sandwich components such as lettuce, tomatoes, and ham (probably from Lechonk) in town and then utilise those items to make a sandwich in under 10 minutes (which is a really long time, if you ask us).

It also appears that the sandwich has genuine physics, which means that the difficult part is balancing the fillings and bread without it all coming apart. We can imagine some amusing physics-related hijinks taking place here… as well as some extremely bad sandwiches.

The sandwich’s components determine how excellent it is and what bonuses you receive from it – greater EXP rates, better catch rates for particular sorts, and assistance with raid engagements are all possibilities, among other things. I enjoy a delicious sandwich.

Character Customisation

Pokémon games continue to expand the amount of character customization available to players, including the reintroduction of haircuts and hair colours, as well as eye shape, eyelash and eyebrow style, beauty marks, freckles, coloured contacts, lip shape, and cosmetics choices.

As an added benefit, it appears that all of these options are no longer gender restricted. This implies that you may not only build a gender-neutral character, but also a genderfluid character that can easily move between a more feminine and a more masculine appearance!

The TM Machine

The TM Machine is appealing to us. TMs may now be manufactured at a Pokémon Center rather than being found dispersed across the globe or purchased in stores. You can construct whatever you have a recipe for using League Points and Pokémon resources – how we receive those recipes, though, is unknown.

Raid battles

Tera raid fights pit up to four players against a Terastallized Pokémon in a timed encounter. These Pokémon, like Sword and Shield’s Dynamaxed fights, are super strong and extra uncommon, with Tera kinds that may not be encountered in the wild.

If your Pokémon is knocked out during these raid battles, don’t panic; they’ll be recovered within five seconds, although that might be valuable time wasted.

If your selected Pokémon is a dud, or if your team requires assistance, you might choose to cheer on your allies instead of performing a move. This allows you to boost their Atk and Sp. Atk, decrease their Def and Sp. Def, or heal the entire team.

When the battle is complete, you and your friends will have to work together to catch the Pokémon, as your Poké Balls will merge into one large one – although it’s unclear who will receive it. Perhaps all of you?

Team Star

Team Star, who appear to be the major villains, at least from what we know, have a number of bases scattered over Paldea, each with a swarm of grunts and a commander. You’ll be able to enter the base with the first three Pokémon in your party, but the name of the base will give you a hint, such as the Fire Squad, indicating that you should stock up on Water types.

The grunt battles appear to be open-field encounters rather than locked-down arena bouts; the game appears to urge you to use the Let’s Go function to beat off waves of low-level grunt Pokémon.

When you’ve fought all of them, you’ll be able to face the boss — in this case, Mela, the head of Team Star’s Fire Squad — who drives in on a souped-up automobile that we strongly think is a Pokémon of some sort.

The trailer stated that we would have to wait to learn more about these skirmishes, which take place on the automobile, so we must presume that there is some nice surprise hidden in amongst all of this.
