New PS5 Model?

A new report has claims that Sony will indeed be releasing a new model of the ps5 in 2024. Every Playstation has had a ‘pro’ version released a few years after the original base model was released. For example the ps4 was released in 2013 and 3 years later the pro version was released. The ps5 was released late in 2020 and the pro version is slated to be released in 2024. This lines up with what Sony has done in the past.

Lets take a look at what’s going to change in this ‘pro’ version. First the reports say that will be a detachable disc drive that will be able to attach to the ps5 via usb-c port in the back. These detached disc drives will also be bundled together with ps5s and cost even more money. (look at our price increase article here). All else, the hardware should be identical with what we have in the ps5 today

The most interesting fact about the report is that Sony will try and push to get the digital model of the ps5 to be the base model. Meaning the disc model will still be available but models moving forward should only have the detachable disc drive. Sony could also make the PS5 slimmer. All of these moves show that Sony is trying to push users into purchasing games digitally.

So how do you feel about Sony’s report on the new version? What are you thoughts on consoles pushing more for a digitally purchasing games? Let us know in the comments!
